You’ve all probably heard about medical racism — where people of color get worse health care because of their race. That’s usually due to human bias. So doctors must rely less on their feelings and more on the numbers. Except, did you know that numbers can be racist, too?

  1. How is this not being examined and corrected immediately?!? Who's in charge?? Can we speak to the manager!!?

  2. Lol I know this is shocking but doctors are actually taught this stuff in med school. Or at least in Canada we were (700 years ago when I was a student). My own school was complicit in some really terrible stuff (see MK-ULTRA/McGill/Allen Institute) but it was owned by the school. I can think of a buncha buncha obstetricians (gynechiatrists) who would gladly offer a perspective on the VBAC issue.

  3. I'm in med school, and we were actually taking renal when the GFR race correction was removed. Only about half of our professors knew about it, and they pointed it out. The other half, though? Eh…

  4. I have a “comedy” playlist and a “stuff to learn from” playlist. Amber is the only comedian who gets saved into one playlist more than the other….

  5. I realise this was delivered with levity but this is actually pretty damning stuff. Since there's truth to these claims, they ought to be investigated with a view to correcting the system. The fact that this is just allowed to continue is wild.

  6. if my 1960 self thought that this inequality would be so egregious in 2022, I would have been called the worst possible cynic.
