What Makes Denver Health “The Heart of Denver”
What does it mean to be a patient at Denver Health?

What does it mean to work for Denver Health?

What does Denver Health mean to the community?

Denver Health is the heart of Denver. This video aims to give everyone a look at what goes on inside and behind the scenes at this major hospital system in the Denver Metro area, as told by its patients and its dedicated, mission-driven health care workers. Nearly 40 departments and services at Denver Health are featured in this seven and a half minute video.

Denver Health is a place of care for all, but is much more than a hospital. With primary care centers providing care to the whole family throughout the city, Denver Health Paramedics and a network of specialized health care teams, we are an anchor in the community since 1860, serving the people of Denver and providing care for all no matter who they are or where they come from.

“I am really happy with Denver Health. Dr. (Cyril) Mauffrey, he is my life changer,” said patient-turned Denver Health pharmacy tech Kemal Hebano, who after leg straightening surgery was cured of a childhood injury and now walks upright for the first time in 40 years. His ailment had affected his confidence and kept him from working full-time. He works for Denver Health – a true demonstration of what it means in Denver Health’s mission to be an anchor institution.

Denver Health aims to uplift the community – though hiring, buying, investing and training local. We address social determinants of health, including access to healthy foods, housing, jobs and transportation. Health care is about more than a doctor’s visit – it’s about caring for the whole person and making sure their life outside of the health care system is a healthy and safe one.

“Denver Health means the world to me, because we don’t deny care for lack of pay,” said psychiatry nurse Brian Fun, RN.

“It means a lot to me to be able to help out the community by going out there to offer care to people that don’t have a vehicle or don’t have a way to get to us,” said Mobile Health Center medical assistant Ana Jacobo Cervantes.

“I feel privileged that we can interact with such a diverse, unique and vibrant population – every day feels like a learning opportunity,” said Thresia (Teena) Sebastian, MD, a pediatric and urgent care physician at Denver Health’s Federico F. Peña Southwest Family Health Center and Urgent Care.

A central theme throughout the video is Denver Health’s five values, which are:

• Excellence: We are better every day.

• Compassion: We care for everyone.

• Relentlessness: We fight for everyone.

• Stewardship: We use resources responsibly.

• Learning: We educate the next generation.

Denver Health’s True North, the reason why we exist, is to change the world by transforming the health of our patients and our community.

“Denver Health saved my life, simple as that,” said patient Jonathan Sweangen, who survived a heart attack and is now in Denver Health’s cardiac rehabilitation program.

We are the heart of Denver and we’re with you for life’s journey.
