Smoking prevention will be first on the agenda for a new agency, that intends to ‘’ameliorate’’ some of the extreme pressure on the health system, Dr Ayesha Verrall says.

Verrall, Covid-19 Minister and Associate Health Minister, donned Red Band gumboots and planted a harakeke with outgoing health director-general Dr Ashley Bloomfield on Monday morning outside the Ministry of Health to mark the establishment of the new Public Health Agency.

  1. Lady is fake news.
    Where are the fact checkers???
    As someone failed by the health system I say NO.
    Clean up the mess before you make a new one.
    Left me for dead and ACC refuse to pay the compensation.
    Being left with a rotting appendix most my life.
    Still no follow up and refuse to lodge my failure to treat.
    NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE DOCTORS NEED TO BE HELD TO ACCOUNT.
    Im a few million out of pocket and that needs be reimbursed.
    Interest will be calculated and the current failure to treat is another claim.

  2. The previous bureaucratic 20 District Health Board based health system showed over the years and under previous governments, failed to deliver the necessary health services it was designed to do. This is a more stream line system but will take time to settle in.
